Agents can be many things, in the US sales agents are people who sell your products but do not usually handle them (unless they are stocking agents) instead agents often refer the order to your company and are paid a commission on their sales by the company. Sales agents like this must be highly motivated and professional because in contrast to employed salaried sales people, if the sales agents do not sell anything they do not get paid anything.
