Brands: defined by the Sticky-Marketing.com monthly magazine

Brands in marketing speak are the names, symbols or identifying marks that are used by a company or on a product to add cohesiveness to communications. See also brand name, trademarks and corporate identity.

While brands in the marketing field are very commercial entities, there are parallels in the application of brands to the branding of cattle or sheep to indicate ownership and in ancient times of humans and some similarity to heraldic coats of arms, family crests and military standards and colours. Branding is in its most basic form is the application of a recognisable visual symbol.
