A business unit is a part of a larger business which may effectively operate with some autonomy or for the sake of analysis it may be split out from the larger business accounts for analysis and control purposes. Similar to profit centre or SBU separate business unit, or BUT business unit team etc. Business units will vary in size depending on the parent organisation but most organisations with more than a little complex operations will have some way of distinguishing between what are effectively slightly different units within their operation.
