Critical Path: defined by the Sticky-Marketing.com monthly magazine |
|
The term "Critical Path" is usually used in relation to project management, for example a project comprising many different sub tasks all of which are required to be completed for overall completion of the project. Tasks can be classified as being either independent or dependent events. Dependent events are by their nature dependent on some preceding task. Thus the critical path through a project is usually but not always defined by the dependent events. The sequence of and duration of the dependent tasks will often determine the critical path and the minimum time in which the whole project can be completed.
Note: exception to this may occur if a single independent task is longer in duration than the sequence of dependent tasks or if there is not enough resource available to maximise efforts on independent tasks such that it takes longer to complete them than the sequence of dependent ones. 07/08/2001 Use your browser back button or click here to visit the Sales & Marketing Glossary of Terms
