Data Protection Act (UK): defined by the Sticky-Marketing.com monthly magazine |
|
The UK data protection act is a piece of legislation that allows people to have some knowledge of the information that commercial and other organisations collect about them. As
soon as your database is computerised you should comply with the data protection act and register the fact that you are collecting personal information for business
purposes. One of the requirements of the act is that you inform your contacts that you are recording information about them more than their basic name and address. Data stored on members of the
general public has to be reproduced for them if they make a request to see this data. If there is a serious complaint you may have to delete or amend the data you hold on someone. People practising
direct marketing in the UK must be conversant with the requirements of the Act.
