A database that is connected or networked via a local (LAN) or wide area (WAN) computer network such that many users can access and transact with the data at the same time.
Typically sales offices, most companies and call centres have quite complex networked databases allowing many people to work on and share the database at the same time. There are also increasing uses
for wide area networks using telephone links to connect remote workers to data centres sometimes via an Internet connection.
