Lead generation is the process of gathering groups of potential customers so that sales activities such as qualifying can take place on them. In some markets lead generation can use the electoral roll or some other way of getting lists of individuals such as buying lists, in other markets desk research and the use of directories of companies can produce list of leads for further following up.
