Mailshot: defined by the Sticky-Marketing.com monthly magazine

A mailshot is a promotion or communication sent using the mail. Usually many similar communications are sent to a qualified list of targets. Often each individual letter can be customised from fields in the database that provides the mailing list from which the name perhaps job title and postal address has been gleaned.

With the mailing is usually some response method and for bought in lists response rates are typically low in the order of 1-2%. This can improve significantly if the mailing list is one that the company maintain themselves and consists of people with whom the company have a direct relationship.
