Seasonal Variations: defined by the Sticky-Marketing.com monthly magazine

Seasonal Variations from the marketing point of view are variations which can be correlated with seasons of the year.

Ice cream sales are likely to be highly seasonal. As such you would expect sales of associated items to correlate with the seasonal variations applying to that market place.

To establish that seasonal variations have a statistical validity you would need historical data and you might like to try to correlate that with other variables which may affect the outcome you are working to predict. Average daily temperature or mm of rainfall may also have some impact on ice cream sales, statistical analysis of this over past data might give you a high enough confidence level to make forward looking predictive judgements based on correlation of a number of factors with seasonal variations.
